1974 Cyclone Tracy by Frank LoCastro

1974 Cyclone Tracy by Frank LoCastro – originally a work for solo piano.

Inspired by his experience wandering through the Darwin in 1974 after the city had been decimated by a huge cyclone.

Frank lost everything including his piano accordion, an instrument that he had brought with him from Sicily when he first moved to Australia.
A kind Scotsman stepped in and sent him his accordion as a replacement.

Transcribed and arranged by Cathy Applegate for string quartet in 2015.

Premiered in this form at the Italian Festival, Darwin Australia, May 2015 – Violin -Priscilla Santos, Violin – Kathy Bowie, Viola – Lois Fong and Cathy Applegate – cello.

I have also arranged this for a larger ensemble. Instrumentation: 1,1,1,1 + strings
